East Cobb isn't a city. It's an unincorporated part of Cobb County where most homes have a Marietta mailing address (30062, 30066, 30067 or 30068) and the Cobb County School District serves students. Its river edge is National Park Service land: at Sope Creek, a short trail leads to the stone ruins of the Marietta Paper Mill, which made paper from 1855 to 1902.
Construction on that mill started in 1853, and for nearly half a century it supplied writing, printing, tissue and wrapping paper to much of the South. It closed in 1902, losing money in part because it sat too far from a railroad. Today the stone walls still stand along the creek, and the ruins remain a draw on the Sope Creek trails.
Usually not. A Marietta mailing address in East Cobb almost always means unincorporated Cobb County, not the City of Marietta. There are no city limits and no city government, and Cobb County provides most local services. That affects which taxes apply, so check the exact address.
Most of East Cobb is established subdivisions on mature, tree-lined streets, with a few distinct flavors.
Classic swim/tennis communities. Many subdivisions are built around a shared pool, tennis courts and a clubhouse. Chimney Springs, for example, has a lake, a pool and eight lighted tennis courts.
Golf and club communities. Indian Hills, home to Indian Hills Country Club, and the neighborhoods around Atlanta Country Club near the river offer a club setting close to home. Club membership is separate from buying a home.
Near the river and Sope Creek. Toward Paper Mill Road, Lower Roswell Road and Johnson Ferry Road, wooded lots and established homes sit minutes from National Park Service trails.
North toward Sandy Plains. Toward Sandy Plains Road and the Cherokee County line, established subdivisions mix with some larger lots.
Townhomes, renovations and new construction. Townhomes and condos sit along the main corridors, and many older homes have been renovated or rebuilt.

The Cobb County School District serves East Cobb. High schools in the area include Walton High School (2025 CCRPI score 94.7), Pope High School (97.1), Lassiter High School (95.4), Wheeler High School (84.1) and Sprayberry High School (78.6). Middle schools include Dickerson (97.2), Dodgen (91.9), Hightower Trail (89.2), Mabry (88.5), Simpson (86.9), East Cobb (74.0) and Daniell (80.0). Elementary schools include Mount Bethel (97.1), Murdock (92.0), Timber Ridge (94.2), Sope Creek (95.4), Shallowford Falls (82.8), Tritt (90.1), Rocky Mount (75.6), East Side (93.2), Garrison Mill (90.8), Davis (80.4) and Keheley (73.6).
The numbers are each school's 2025 College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) score on a 0 to 100 scale, for the 2024-25 school year. For comparison, the Cobb County School District scored 79.9 and Georgia 78.0. A score describes a school, not a neighborhood, and a subdivision name or listing description isn't a school assignment. Confirm the assigned schools for the exact address with the Cobb County School District before making an offer.
Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. The National Park Service manages several units along East Cobb's river edge. The Cochran Shoals unit, including its Sope Creek and Columns Drive areas, has hiking and biking trails, and the Marietta Paper Mill ruins at Sope Creek are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Gold Branch unit adds about 4.9 miles of hiking trails.
East Cobb Park. This county park on Roswell Road has walking trails along Sewell Mill Creek, two playgrounds, five pavilions, an outdoor stage, a lending book library and paths that connect to Fuller Park.
Mabry Park. Built on 26.5 acres of the former Mabry family farm off Wesley Chapel Road.
Hyde Farm. A historic farm shared by Cobb County and the National Park Service, with trails through fields and woods.
The Avenue East Cobb on Roswell Road is the everyday spot for dinner and errands. More on parks and dining: our East Cobb parks and dining guide.
From The Avenue East Cobb, Marietta Square is about 20 minutes outside rush hour, Truist Park about 25 minutes, downtown Atlanta about 40 minutes and Hartsfield-Jackson airport about 50 minutes. Johnson Ferry Road, Roswell Road (GA-120), Lower Roswell Road and Powers Ferry Road carry most East Cobb traffic. Roswell Road runs east into Roswell toward GA-400 and Alpharetta, Johnson Ferry Road crosses the Chattahoochee into Sandy Springs, and Roswell Road, Lower Roswell Road and Powers Ferry Road lead to I-75 toward downtown Atlanta and to I-285. Drive times swing a lot with traffic, so time the real route at the hour you'd actually drive it.
Cobb's rates run a little lower. For tax year 2026, unincorporated East Cobb pays a combined 30.13 mills: Cobb County general fund 8.46, fire 2.97 and Cobb County School District 18.70. Across the river, Fulton County's general fund rate is 8.87 mills and Fulton County Schools' current rate is 17.08, before any city rate. In Roswell, where the city adopted 5.232 mills for 2026, those three add up to 31.18.
A mill is $1 of tax per $1,000 of taxable value, and exemptions change every bill, so the tax record for the specific home is the number that matters.
No. It's an unincorporated community in Cobb County, so most homes rely on the county for local services.
Mostly Marietta ZIP codes 30062, 30066, 30067 and 30068. Boundaries are informal, so check the specific address.
The Cobb County School District. High schools in the area include Walton (2025 CCRPI score 94.7), Pope (97.1), Lassiter (95.4), Wheeler (84.1) and Sprayberry (78.6). Confirm the assigned schools for the exact address with the district.
